Submitting an article to the dissenter?
thedissenter is unashamedly individualist and anti-collectivist in its editorial heart. thedissenter reveres the rule of law, democracy, and small government. That does not exclude submission of articles who do not share such ideas.
All articles must follow a few simple rules.
No gratuitous disparaging of an individual or organisation. Criticism must be constructive and the article must make a wider point of which criticism is merely a part.
It is good to ask questions. However, an article must demonstrate why those questions deserve answering.
All articles that are not submitted by invitation must be accredited, and if the writer is a member of any organisation relevant to the subject matter this must always be declared. Membership of any political party must always be declared. thedissenter reserves the right to draw attention to any omission in these respects if such information is not disclosed in the first instance.
If considered appropriate, based on a strong justification for anonymity, thedissenter may offer an invitation post-submission of an unsolicited article. Once designated a ‘invited contributor’ thedissenter reserves the right, at its discretion, to remove this designation for an individual article or for all future articles from an individual contributor; though not without telling the contributor.
If an article seeks to respond to an article or commentary which has been published through thedissenter, or within any other media, then the response must add something new to the subject matter. Ideally articles ought to be around 600 words. Longer articles or essays will be accepted, with a 400 summary piece which would be published with an appropriate page link to the longer article.
thedissenter decision on what is or is not published is final. No correspondence will be entered into with respect to a decision to reject an article, and letters or comments with respect to any article or commentary which is published will be routinely ignored.
